Rev. Columbus Daily, age 91 of 111 Dailey Drive, Carthage, NC passed on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his residence.
Reverend Columbus Daily, son of the late George and Laura Daily was born on December 1, 1926 in Cumnock, NC.
He became a member of St. Paul AME Zion Church, Cumnock, NC at an early age. He attended Lee County Training School and EE Smith High School in Fayetteville. He joined the US Army and served his term of enlistment receiving an Honorable Discharge.
He met and married Opal Ferguson in 1948 and they were blessed with a daughter, Goldine Daily Person. He attended Harris Barber College in Raleigh, NC where he became a Master Barber.
After moving to Carthage, NC, he joined Mt. Zion AME Zion Church where he served as a trustee and in other capacities throughout his years of service.
Rev. Daily accepted the call of God and entered the ministry. He became a member of the Central North Carolina Conference (Dunn-Lillington District). He pastored Davis Chapel AME Zion Church, Linden, NC, Erwin Memorial AME Zion Church Erwin, NC and Chapel Hill AME Zion Church, Broadway, NC where he retired. After retirement he continued to worship at his home church Mt. Zion. He loved the Lord, his church – especially Sunday school. He quoted the scripture about love to everyone that he came in contact with. This was his great commission: To preach about love.
He held many jobs throughout his life and retired from JP Stevens Carpet in Aberdeen, NC. He also worked at Smithson, Southern Pines, NC and well in his 80's he worked at Lee Foundry, Sanford, NC.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Goldine Person; grandson, Jackie Person, Jr. (Ceni) of Stanford, CT, great grandchildren, Jayel, Jayce and Nasir, Joseph, Charlie, Bernita, Stephanie, Kenny and Toya, whom all lovingly called him "granddaddy". sisters, Mary Holyfield-Diamond, CA, Dorothy Hicks and Anne Prewith of Los Angeles, CA, Mabel Bailey of San Francisco, CA; brother, Herman Daily of CA; A special niece, Arlene Daily of Sanford, NC; special nephew, Earnest Daily III of New York, and many other relatives and friends; special church members, Sis. Ruth Brower and Sis. Irene Sellars who were diligent in their love, care and concern for him.
