Major McKinley Wood

Major M. Wood, age 84, passed on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.

Major Mckinley Wood, Sr. was born in Colon North Carolina February 24, 1933 to the late Alberta Wood Hart and John Hart. He departed this life September 12, 2017 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. He is a graduate from W.B. Wicker High School and after graduating served in the U.S. Army. Major was employed for many years with the US Postal Service as a Mail Handler. Deacon Wood had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was a source of encouragement to anybody that he came into contact with. He would often be found at Barbara’s Hat Shop talking and sharing his wisdom with others. He was actively involved in the Ministry of the Deacon for over 50 years. Deacon Wood was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and gardener.

Deacon Wood married the love of his life Barbara and they were married 62 years. Four sons were born of this union.

He was preceded in death by a son Wayne J. Wood.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Sexton Wood; sons, Major Wood, Jr. from York, PA. Kevin Wood from Atlanta, GA. and Reverend Nathaniel Wood (Ramona) of Fuquay Varina; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
