Mrs. Elsie Bethune McLean, age 81 of 1616 Prosperity Drive, Sanford, NC passed on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Central Carolina Hospital.

Elsie Bethune McLean was born September 13, 1936 to June and Mary Alice Harrington. Her mother died at an early age, so her Aunt Isabelle Harrington stepped in as her maternal figure. She departed this life on January 10, 2018, at the age of 81.

She was educated in the Moore County School system including Pickney High School, which she loved.

She married Eddie C. Bethune and moved to Sanford, NC. She was employed at Coty Inc. for over 30 years, where she retired.
Later she married Samuel McLean whom she spent many hours with on the fishing bank.

During her early childhood years she attended Hood’s Chapel. She later joined Blandonia Presbyterian Church. As a member of Blandonia, she became a Deacon, a member of the Chancel Choir, The Heritage Singers, and Presbyterian Women. She later joined Works for Christ Christian Center. She was a devoted member of Sunday School and Chairperson of the Mother Board.

Preceding her in death were her parents, along with her brothers, Everett C. Harrington and Kenneth Kelly.

Momma, Grandma, Aunt Elsie, Mother Elsie (or whatever she was to you) was a smart, hard-working, God fearing woman, who lived with a joy in her heart for all of her family. Those who knew her will truly miss her smile and words of encouragement. She will be missed by all but especially her family.
To remember her legacy, she leaves her husband of 28 years, Samuel McLean, her two sisters, Blanche Harrington and Lula Williams of Bronx, New York. Her children, Linda Graham (Joseph), James Bethune, George Bethune, Shelia Bethune (Pep), Alice Pearson (Paul), Eddie Bethune, Barbara Murchison, and Tonya Chesney (Steve). She left 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including a very special cousin, Annie Lou Frye.
