Willie Thompson Obituary

Ms. Willie Mae (Goldston) Thompson, age 93, of Sanford, NC entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Westfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sanford, NC.

The Obituary

Willie Mae Thompson was born on April 21, 1932, to the late Lillie G. Tysor in Goldston, NC. On April 29, 2025, at the age of 93, God called her home after a life filled with love, kindness, and faith. Willie Mae’s legacy of love, faith, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

She married the love of her life, Clyde Roy Thompson Sr., on April 17, 1949. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming six children—three of whom preceded her in death: Clyde Roy
Thompson Jr., Bertha R. Brooks, and Larry E. Thompson. She also had four brothers and three sisters who preceded her in death.

A devoted member of Macedonia A.M.E. Zion Church in Gulf, NC, Willie Mae served on the culinary arts committee and was honored as the Mother of the church. She loved reading her Bible and when asked how she was doing her usual response was, “I’m just living for the Lord.” Her home was always warm and welcoming, known for her incredible cooking, especially her delicious cakes and pies. She shared meals and fellowship with all who entered.

Willie Mae worked at the Palomino Motel before dedicating over twenty years to Coty, Inc. in Sanford, NC, where she was affectionately called “Baby Duck.” Her kindness and work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She leaves behind two daughters, Gloria Martin (Alexander), Sanford, NC and Carolyn Cheek (Ivon), Gulf, NC; one son, Richard Thompson, Durham, NC; daughter-in-law, Sandra Thompson; three sisters, Lynda Price, Reval McClain (Clarence), and Daisy Womble (Willie); one brother, Carl Thompson (Mechelle); two sisters-in-law, Katherine Austin and Patricia Thompson; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, including special friends, Lonnie and Elianne West and Faye White.
