Willie Lee (Whatley) Matthews

Mrs. Willie Lee (Whatley) Matthews, age 81 of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

Willie W. Matthews was born on December 3, 1941.

On April 8, 2023, with her loving husband and son by her side God saw fit to take her home. She was preceded in death by her mother, Willette Whatley; father, Samuel Whatley; twin brother, Billie Whatley; her only sister, Nancy Adams and a loving granddaughter, Aliyah Matthew.

Willie Matthews was born in Calhoun County, Anniston Alabama and graduated from Cobb high school. She met and fell in love with Thomas Matthews. They were united in Holy matrimony on June 28, 1972. Willie moved to North Carolina In 1972. She worked at Cornell Dubilier and she also mothered many a children in her home after leaving the workforce.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 50 years, Thomas Matthews; one son, Sean Matthews; two grandchildren, Sean Matthews Jr., and Christian Matthews that she loved whole heartedly; one sister in law,  Frances McCormick of Providence, Rhode Island; three brother in laws, Wendell (Joyce) Matthews of Goldston NC; Frank (Allice) Matthews of Sanford, NC, and Hubert (Joann) Matthews of Moncure, NC and she helped in rearing a niece, Anita McNutt, Terell Adams, and Corey Adams and host of nieces and nephews and friends that she treasured.

"The family will be receiving guests at 1611 Prosperity Drive, Sanford, NC, 27332, daily from 4pm - 6pm".
