Mr. William Louis Singleton, age 82, of Broadway, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, June 5, 2026, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

In Loving Memory of William Louis Singleton

William Louis Singleton, affectionately known as “Bo” by family and friends, was born on January 3, 1944, in Mississippi to Otto Singleton and Odeal Harris‑Morris. He peacefully transitioned on June 5, 2026.

William attended Valena C. Jones High School in Mississippi, where he excelled academically and participated in football and track. After graduating, he attended Mississippi Valley State University, a historically Black College and University (HBCU), where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology.

A close friend, Jim Bo, encouraged William to move to Chicago, Illinois. Shortly thereafter, he was offered a position with GM Automotive in Michigan, where he began building a successful career. While in Michigan, William met a beautiful young woman, Bobbie Chalmers, who managed a dry‑cleaning business he frequently visited. Their love blossomed, and the two were united in marriage in Flint, Michigan, in 1971. Together, they built a loving family and shared many memorable years.

William and Bobbie joined the Flint Eagles Motorcycle Club in Otisville, Michigan, a family‑oriented riding club where they created lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Around 1975, they relocated to North Carolina with their three sons—Kenny, David, and Scoot—where they later welcomed their daughter, Sonya.

William was a devoted husband, father, and provider who cared deeply for his family. He offered not only financial support but emotional strength, wisdom, and moral guidance. Known for his humor, William often made his children laugh with his playful personality and favorite saying, “I got a couple of dollars,” whenever they asked for money.

He faithfully attended his children’s games, award ceremonies, and proudly coached from the stands. William enjoyed fishing trips, visits to the racetrack, and was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In November 1996, William experienced the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife, Bobbie. Despite this tremendous loss, he continued to lovingly care for and provide for his four children with unwavering strength and dedication.

William worked as a cement mixer truck driver for Ready Mix Concrete for over 35 years before retiring. He also worked alongside his son David in a dump truck delivery business.

William was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bobbie; his parents, Otto Singleton and Odeal Harris‑Morris; his siblings, Clara Barbour, Alonzo Summers, Josephine Morris‑Handy, Patricia Jackson‑Goff, Learlene Toney, Gearline Gutter, and David Wayne Parker; and his in‑laws, Annie Shaw, Henry Chalmers, and Darlene Brewington.

Some called him William, others knew him as “Bo,” “Lil Wil,” or “Uncle Wil.” To his children, he was lovingly known as “Pops” and “Daddy.” No matter what you called him, one thing remained the same—he was always there, offering love, support, laughter, and a helping hand whenever needed.

He is deeply mourned by his children, Kenneth Singleton, David Singleton (Vicky), William “Scoot” Singleton, and Sonya Tannehill (Luke); his grandchildren, Xavier Currie, Tristan Tannehill, and Talon Tannehill; his siblings, Clarence Singleton‑Harris, Rita Singleton, Charlotte Morris, Dr. Lee E. Morris Sr., Teresa “Tessie” Singleton, Otto Singleton, and Honorene Singleton Davis; and his in‑laws, Jimmie Chalmers, Floyd Chalmers, Bruce Chalmers, Veronica Mays, Glenda Chalmers, and Gloria Boyce; along with a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, family, and friends who will carry his love and memories forever in their hearts.
