Mr. William Dennis Dowdy transitioned on Saturday, March 14, 2020. He was born on June 27, 1938, in Goldston, NC to McKinnley D. Dowdy & Wilma Tysor Dowdy Thompson. William graduated from JS Waters School in Goldston, NC.
He married Doris J. Howze on July 31, 1960. From that union, Yolanda Shark, Gary, Warren, and Tammy were born. They proudly adopted twins Hakim & Kasiem Dowdy into the family.
William was employed by the New York Times as a Delivery Foreman, a position that he held in high regard. After 27 years of service, he retired in June of 2002. After retirement, William returned to his childhood home of North Carolina, residing in nearby Siler City. He enjoyed raising and caring for horses, farming, socializing with friends and family, and making sure everyone enjoyed his company.
William is preceded in death by his brother and sister: Billy Joe Dowdy and Emma Jacqueline Dowdy Long.
Along with his immediate family, William also leaves behind a sister, Bertha Mae Turman of Goldston, NC; two grandsons, William Shark and Jonathan Shark, their wives Jae and Rosemary; one great grandson, Vincent; one beloved great aunt; Iona Cheek, of Seagrove, NC; a sister-in-law, Victoria M. Dowdy, of the Bronx, NY, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
