Wilbert Arnold Atkins, age 72 of 322 Wyatt Road, Robbins, NC transitioned into eternal rest Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC.
Mr. Wilbert Arnold Atkins was born on February 24, 1948 to the late Clara Atkins and Lewis Womble of High Falls, North Carolina. On July 22, 2020 he fulfilled his earthly duties only to begin his heavenly dwelling with the Almighty God. He transitioned from life at Moses Cone Hospital with his family by his side.
Wilbert gave his life to Christ as a young teenager and as he got older he renewed his faith in Christ. He was a very devoted and faithful christian at Alston Chapel Church. He was willing to serve and encourage others in the faith with a word of encouragement or just with his presence up until his transition to glory. His word was his bond and he didn't mind taking care of his church and his family.
Wilbert retired from Collins and Aikmen, to pursue his dream of Wilbert Atkins Trucking Company of 30 plus years. He dedicated many many years to his business up until he became ill and was called to glory. Many of the men that he worked with would attest to how happy and hardworking he was with his trucking business. Wilbert enjoyed working on cars, trucks and other machinery when he was not driving trucks. Those who were touched by Wilbert understood that the quality of his existence far exceeds the quality of time at which one lives. His humorous laughter and personality brought so much joy to his family, friends and strangers who came in contact with him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Bell McLaughlin; Dallas Grey Womble (stepmother), Lewis Walker Womble; (father) Cawshei McLaughlin; (stepfather) Walker Womble (brother) Yvonne McLaughlin (sister) Quetin Wiley (nephew).
Wilbert leaves to cherish his wife of 55 years, Shirley M. Atkins of the home; two sons, Greg C. Wyatt (Molly) of Greensboro, NC, and Derek Atkins (Angela) Seagrove; one daughter, Tina Atkins Thompson (Kent) of the home; one grandson, Princeton Boyd; six granddaughters, Jessica, Selena (Sierra), Gabriella, Tiffany, Krista, and Saniyah; one great-grandchild, Julius; six brothers, Leon McLaughlin; Randy McLaughlin, Jerome Womble (Adel), Robert Womble (Joann) Daniel Womble and Samuel Womble (Stella); four sisters, Mary Wiley, Arminta Womble; Audrey (Anthony Wilkerson) and Linda McLaughlin; two special best friends, Nathan Spencer and M. A. Baldwin and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
