Mrs. Virginai Patricia Wood, age 88 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her residence. 

The Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia P. Wood, who peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2026, at the age of 88 in Sanford, North Carolina.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Virginia's life was a blessing to all who knew her. She touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love, always making sure those around her felt cared for and appreciated. She built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

Virginia was born in Brooklyn, New York, to her parents, Dominica and Virgil Diaz. After graduating from high school, she began her career in retail, where she met the love of her life, Philip Wood, Sr. Together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage and raised their four sons in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Later, Virginia built a successful career in retail and logistics, serving as an HR and Payroll Manager.

Following Philip’s retirement, Virginia and Philip settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where she became a devoted member of Rivers Church Assemblies of God. In her later years, she attended 1Hope Assemblies of God in Sanford, North Carolina.

One of Virginia's greatest joys was caring for others, especially through sharing a meal. She loved gathering family and friends around her table whenever she had the opportunity. Her many hobbies included playing Scrabble, knitting Afghans for loved ones, and collecting treasured keepsakes. Those who knew Virginia will remember her kind and attentive spirit, her ability to listen without judgment, her heartfelt laughter, and the faithful prayers she offered for family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her devoted husband, Philip Wood, Sr.; her children, Philip Wood, Jr. (Sue), David J. Wood, Paul S. Wood (Jennifer), and Kenneth M. Wood (Jessie); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Nora Shea, Delores Mahoney, and John Diaz (Diana).

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lydia Worby and Marion Bradt; her father, Virgil Diaz; her mother, Dominica Hill; and her stepfather, Ned Hill.
