The Obituary

Mr. Vernon Andrew Brooks, age 81, of Pittsboro, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice House in Pittsboro, NC. He was born to the late Willie Brooks and Bertha Brooks on October 22, 1942, in Chatham County, North Carolina.  He was united in Holy Matrimony to Helen Brown Brooks for 42 years.

He was educated in Pittsboro NC and later obtained certifications from the community college system. Mr. Brooks served in the US Army in the Special Weapons Division during the Vietnam Conflict.    He worked for several years in various capacities as a machine operator.  He was skilled in carpentry and crafted many items for the community.  He attended Mitchell Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion church at an early age.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with the family and especially enjoyed going on yearly Thanksgiving trips to Myrtle Beach with his wife.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife, Helen Brooks; one daughter, Annette Alston Condé of Raleigh NC; one granddaughter, Bella Condé of Raleigh NC; one brother, James Brooks of Reidsville, NC; three sisters-in-law; Kathie Ramsey, Lorrie Bryson, Fern Alston; one brother-in-law, Ernest (Butch) Ramsey Jr.; a host of nephews and nieces, relatives, and friends.
