Obituary
Turkessa, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, departed this life on December 10, 2025, at UNC Chapel Hill. She was born on December 29, 1976, to Larry and Beverly Crump, and from the moment she arrived, she blessed the world with her kindness, her loving nature, and her big, generous heart.
She grew up in Pittsboro, North Carolina, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1995, where she was proudly elected Class President. Often referred to as our “angel,” a reflection of her gentle spirit, her leadership, and the warmth she extended to everyone she met. She later attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduating in 2000. While at UNCG, she continued her legacy of compassion by creating a women’s support group that uplifted and encouraged countless young women.
Her faith was central to her life. She was an active and devoted member of St. Matthew’s AME Zion Church in Pittsboro, NC, where she joyfully served over the children’s choir and lovingly prepared the church program each week. Her presence in the church community was a blessing—her smile, her patience, and her commitment to service touched every child and every member of the congregation.
Above all, she was a loving mother whose only daughter, Aniya Crump, was her greatest joy and deepest pride. Their bond was unbreakable and filled with unconditional love, laughter, and the shared journey of life. To Aniya, she was not only a mother but a best friend, a confidant, and the truest example of grace and strength.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Aniya Crump; her parents, Larry and Beverly Crump; her brothers, Marcus; Darius and her niece, Logan and Logan’s mother, Lynell. She is also survived by her grandmother, Ernestine Rieves Maynor; her godmother, Mary Joyce Cameron; goddaughters Aalani Neleh Thorne and Elayna Mahadeo; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and devoted friends.
She will forever be remembered for her kindness, her loving heart, and the way she made everyone feel valued and embraced. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the love she gave so freely.
