Thomas Monroe Alston, age 90 of 16119 US 421 S., Sanford, North Carolina transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.
Thomas Monroe Alston was born March 20th 1930 in Moore County, NC. The oldest child of Timothy Alston and Ida Chalmers Alston. He departed this life on December 22nd 2020 around 5:30pm at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.
He attended Goldston High School until leaving early to help his father in the family business. There are many who will remember Monroe “Timmy” and the profound impact he had on their lives. He served his country during the Korean War in the US Army. After being honorably discharged he returned to Gulf, NC and was employed with a local brick manufacturing company. Years later he moved to New York where he was employed with Adam’s Metal as a Machinist until he retired in 1991. Monroe was married to Ethel Price Alston. To this union a son Andre was born. Both preceded Monroe in death. A son, Dwight Murdock also preceded him in death. He later married Arlene Jones Alston and moved to New Jersey, before returning to Gulf, NC after retirement. Arlene also preceded him in death along with one brother, James Alston and three sisters, Catherine Jones, Margie Alston and Billie Alston.
Monroe leaves cherished memories of him, one brother, Timothy Alston Jr. and wife, Joyce Alston of Sanford, NC; four sisters, Clara Alston Reaves and husband, George Reaves of West Haven, CT, Jessie Alston Black of Fayetteville, NC, Margaret Alston Martin of Siler City, NC, and Clarissa Alston Gunter of Des Moines, IA; two step daughters, Dionne Timmons and Tracy Jones from New Jersey; three grand-daughters, Fanisha Young Boyd of Memphis, TN, Tacarra Torain of Graham, NC, and Nicole Alston of Queens, NY; five great grandchildren Areyel, Azaria, Andre, Jaylen, and Jayda; one great great grandchild, Zyair; and a host of nieces and nephews that adored him, along with many other relatives and friends.
