Mrs. Thelma Alberta (Couch) Knight, age 91, of Pittsboro, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, May 18, 2026, at UNC Medical Center in Hillsborough, NC.
Obituary
Thelma Alberta Couch Knight, daughter of the late Charlie & Rosa Couch, was born August 21, 1934, in Chatham County, NC. She transitioned from this earthly life on May 18, 2026, at UNC Hillsborough.
She attended school in Chatham County, graduating from Horton High School in 1952. She was joined in holy matrimony to George Fred Knight in 1956. To this union two children were born, Janet Marie and George Michael.
At a young age, Thelma joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She served in the capacities of head of the Deaconess Board and Kitchen Committee. She was a faithful member
until her health declined.
In her younger years, she held various jobs including working at Sunshine Gardens, but most notably she provided childcare services to many families in the community. She was also well
known for her coconut and sweet potato pies. She enjoyed traveling with her family, watching her soap operas, and doing crossword puzzles. In her later years, she enjoyed going to the
Pittsboro Center for Active Living.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Janet Knight Harris and son-in-law, James Lee Harris; brother, William Thomas; sister, Dorothy Couch Raines; and one daughter-in-law, Cathy Knight.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, George Michael Knight; granddaughters, Ashlee Knight and Letitia McCrimmon; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Brabham and Karen Thomas; and
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
