Teresa Holmes Obituary

Mrs. Teresa Delayne (Young) Holmes, age 63, of Spring Lake, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at her residence.

Obituary

Teresa Holmes, age 63, was born on December 1, 1962, to the late Pearl Swan and the late Bobby Lee Young. She was the second oldest of five daughters, all lovingly known as “Pearl’s Girls.”

Growing up together, they learned strength, resilience, and determination from their mother; qualities that helped shape Teresa into the strong, compassionate, and faithful woman she became.

Teresa was a proud graduate of Pomona High School, Class of 1981, where she excelled as a standout track athlete. Her dedication, discipline, and excellence earned her a scholarship opportunity to attend Texas Southern University, an accomplishment she remained deeply proud of throughout her life.

Guided by purpose and a heart for serving others, Teresa began her nursing career in 1983.
For more than 40 years, she devoted herself to caring for others through kindness, compassion, professionalism, and genuine love. Nursing was truly a calling for Teresa, and many lives were better because of her dedication.

On December 30, 1989, Teresa married the love of her life, Pastor Alexander Holmes. Their marriage was rooted in faith, love, partnership, and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on family, ministry, and service to God.

Family meant everything to Teresa. She cherished being a mother to her daughter, Shalesha, and she found immeasurable joy in spending time with her grandchildren.
Whether traveling, celebrating life events, or simply making memories together, she poured love, laughter, and warmth into every moment shared with Asa, Kenley, and Brian II.

Faith was the foundation of Teresa’s life. She served faithfully in youth ministry, children’s ministry, elders' ministry, and helped establish impactful church programs that blessed many. She ministered the Word of God with grace, joy, wisdom, and love, touching countless lives along the way. Teresa also had a special gift for celebrating others—especially on their birthdays—always making people feel valued, appreciated, and loved.

In 2024, Teresa embraced a new chapter as the First Lady of New Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Bennettsville, South Carolina, where she continued to serve with love, strength, and compassion, supporting her husband and caring deeply for the congregation.

On December 27, 2025, Teresa peacefully transitioned at her home in Spring Lake, North Carolina. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, loving service, strength, dignity, and compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Swan and Bobby Lee Young, and her son-in-law, Chris Pierce.

She Leaves to Cherish Her Memory Her loving husband, Pastor Alexander Holmes Her devoted daughter, Shalesha Pierce (Brian Knight) Her beloved grandchildren, Asa Pierce, Kenley Knight, and Brian Knight II Her sisters, Sandra Burnett (Ernest Burnett), Latricia Young, YaLonda Thomas, and Quinnita Reid, each carrying forward the resilience and strength passed from their mother, Pearl and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, dear friends, and loving church family
