Ms. Shirley Ann (Piggie) Marion, age 73 of Sanford, NC, entered eternal rest on Sunday January 19, 2025, at her residence.
The Obituary
Shirley Ann Piggie Marion was called home on January 19, 2025. She was 73 years old. Her health went into rapid decline, and she became bedridden.
Shirley was born on August. 20, 1951 in Sanford, NC to Virginia Piggie and Leroy Verbal.
She attended W.B. Wicker and Lee County Senior High School, graduating in Class of 1970. She was a basketball cheerleader and a majorette in the band, which she loved.
She became a CNA which is the profession that eventually guided her life to caring for the elderly and babies. She worked for the Lee County Council on Aging, which we all know today as The Enrichment Center. She was a driver and got to know and become attached to all the people on her route. She later became a caregiver to many people, including the many babies she would come to care for in her home.
She loved music, with The Temptations and Al Green being among her many favorites. Helping people in any way she could, even if that meant giving them a place to stay, and being with family meant the world to her. Dinners and family gatherings brought her much joy.
Shirley was twice married, first to Charles Spruell, and later to Horace Marion, which ended with his passing after 26 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Benjamin, Robert, Ray, David, and husband, Horace.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Felicia Spruell; one son, Tracy Spruell (Rhonda); three stepchildren, Brenda Robinson, Joanne Wofford (Anthony), and Kevin Marion, all from New Jersey; two brothers, Larry Piggie and Bobby (Sheila) Piggie; three grandchildren, Erica (Colby) Pearson, Ohmar Spruell, and Daysha Spruell; four great-grandchildren, Eden, Brielle, Khalil and Nevaeh; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Larry Clegg for being one of the caregivers for Shirley. He was with her through her illness, and was a huge help to her, Felicia and Tracey.
