Mrs. Sarah Jane Cotten, age 90 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC.
Sarah Jane Cotten was the second born child of Robert Allen Cotten, Sr. “Sanktum” and Leala Burnette Cotten on December 18, 1931 in Chatham County, NC.
She was a hard worker who understood the importance of family and home. She was given the nickname of “Sis” because she was the oldest girl. If anyone had a need she was the dependable person to call. She allowed her actions to testify of her love for family and friends. Her network of friends included those she worked with at Chatham Mills. She spent many years there as she would say “working those looms”. Her co-workers appreciated her friendship on the job. She was never short on words and could tell you what she needed you to know. She was honest and trustworthy. Her assignment to take care of those who were sick caused her to travel many miles walking. She never gave the excuse of not being able to do something that would help. She nursed many back to health by delivering home-cooked delicious food to them. Her life of love and service will be thought of and missed.
She served as a church mother at her local church Deliverance Tabernacle Pittsboro and the DTFC.
She loved hard and served well. No task was too hard or too small for her. She continued serving until her health began to fail.
She was a loving mother of four children; three of which preceded her in death: Jerry, Bishop Dora Dianne Lee and an infant daughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Harold, Robert Jr., Rufus and Amanda.
She is survived by one son, Charles Fuller Cotten, who was her youngest; her pastor and son-in-love, Pastor Lawrence Lee; two daughters in love, Linda Cotten and Lena (Charles) Cotten; her grandchildren were her “heartbeats”: Gary, Sarina, Lynette, Pam, Phyllis, Michael, Alvin and Allena; great-grandchildren, others that she adopted as her children and grandchildren; as well as Bishop Georgia R. Riley and the entire Deliverance Tabernacle Family. She also had an array of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
