Mrs. Sarah Catherine (Snipes) Chesney, age 103 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Westfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Sarah Catherine Chesney, daughter of the late Willie and Emma Snipes, was born on February 12, 1921, in Sanford, NC, and received her heavenly wings on June 21, 2024, at age 103.
Sarah was the second of twelve children. She learned the core values of family at an early age and carried them with her throughout her life. She was a devout Christian who knew that God was always in control, and that He would never put more on us than we could bear. She was a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister and grandmother, who would do anything she could to help anybody.
Sarah joined Poplar Springs AME Church at an early age and was a faithful member who loved attending services and singing programs until her health started failing. Her strong faith kept her smiling until the end.
Sarah was a caring and giving woman. She always had time to talk, listen or just love on anyone who needed it. She loved her family and community and opened her home to family and friends who might need somewhere to stay or just rest for a night. During the time when yard sales was her favorite sport, she collected, sorted and gave clothes to anyone that needed them.
Sarah loved to fish and did so well into her 70s. She also loved to cook and was famous for her Sunday dinners. Her house was a gathering place for family and friends who would stop by, whether to eat a full meal or maybe just a desert or two. Some stopped by just to enjoy the company of those gathered there.
Sarah was married to the late Albert Chesney.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight children, five grandchildren, and nine siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son Jimmie, (Sheron); a grandson, Christopher (Chrystal); a granddaughter, Sarah whom she raised as her own; a faithful grandson, Travis (Evelyn) who she knew she could always count on; her sister, Ruby (Howard); her brother, Haywood (Barbara) and about one hundred and thirty grands, great grands, and great-great grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Sarah touched the lives of so many people in numerous ways. She will surely be missed by those that loved or knew her.
Thank you for helping us protect the families and communities we serve.
