Ruby Deloris (Powell) Thompson

Ruby Deloris Thompson, age 87 transitioned into eternal rest Thursday, November 5, 2020, at her residence.

Early Thursday morning, November 5, 2020, God called one of His beautiful angels home into
the garden of eternity. Ruby Deloris (Powell) Thompson was born August 21, 1933, to the late
Floyd and Annie Edwards Powell.

Ruby was born and raised in Chatham County where she attended and graduated from Horton
High School in Pittsboro, NC. She also attended Fayetteville State University. 
Ruby was a homemaker for years until she decided to join the workforce and she joined Coty
and was employed there for 14 years before retiring.

Ruby accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Holland’s Chapel AME Zion where she
was a member until she met and married the love of her life the late Walter L. Thompson, Sr.
She later joined Macedonia AME Zion Church where she served faithfully on the Deaconess
Board, Stewardess Board, and Flower Club until her health declined.

Ruby was a great mother. She was devoted to her family, her children, and her grandchildren.
She had a quiet spirit and always had a smile, but one thing she loved to do is cook. If anyone
knew her, knew she cooked the best-fried chicken and potato salad.

Ruby’s husband, Walter L. Thompson, Sr., father, Floyd, mother, Annie, and sister, Willie Ethel,
preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons; Darryl (Althea), Walter Jr, Gerald (Angela), two
daughters; Beverly (Merle), Patti (Charles); grandchildren; Andrew, Jeremy, Nicholas, Brittany,
Kristen, Aaron, Tiffany, Lauren, April (Norman), Jessica, and Jasmine; three great grandchildren, Zion, Samara, and Isaiah and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
