Ruby Lee (Howard) Person

Mrs. Ruby Lee (Howard) Person, age 89 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, NC.

The Obituary

Ruby Lee Howard was born December 14, 1935 in Harnett County, NC. She was one of nine children born to Lura McArthur. She attended Ridge Way School in Harnett County.

She worked beside her mother and siblings at a very early age until she moved to Sanford, NC and begin working in the manufacturing industry. She met and married John D. Person in August 1981.

Upon her retirement, she enjoyed the rest of her life with her husband of 44 years doing everything she wanted to do. She joined First Calvary Baptist Church in 1967 and has remained a faithful member until her passing. She was a very diligent worker in different auxiliaries in the church. She served on the Deaconess Board, and Missionary. She was well known for the beautiful Rainbow Tea’s presented at First Calvary as the Lady with the Red Table.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Louis McNeill; one grandson, Corey Lamont White; and one great-grandson, Alexander Gerome Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy, her husband, John D. Person; one daughter Shelby M. White; son-in-law, Charles H. White of Lillington, NC; sister, Ernestine Taylor, Alexandria, VA; one daughter-in-law, Linda McNeill, Greensboro, NC; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great –great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
