Mr. Robert Lee Tyson, age 77 of Hobbs, New Mexico transitioned to eternal rest Monday, April 29, 2024.
Robert Lee Tyson, age 77, was born October 6, 1946, in Chatham County, NC, to Martha Jean Tyson. He was called home on April 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert married Mattie Lipscomb Tyson on September 23, 1977, in Hobbs, NM. He was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, brother, and friend.
Mr. Tyson was educated in a one room building (K-12) at J.S. Waters School in Goldston, NC. When he became of age, he drove the school bus for his classmates. This started his truck driving career.
Robert was a truck driver at Ready Mix Concrete Company, C.P. Construction, Wallach Concrete where he retired for the 1st time, Tex Mex, Nova Mud, and Diamondback Disposal, this was his current job. He was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, head of the Usher Board, an NAACP member, his hobbies were fishing, playing spades, dominoes, bowling, and riding his motorcycles. Robert really loved attending his grandchildren’s extra- curricular activities and games. He also loved his family gatherings.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Jean Tyson and brother, Bo Tyson.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mattie Tyson of the home; his children, Sharon McKoy Moncure N.C., Kevin Lipscomb Hobbs, N.M., Kendall Lipscomb (Twila) Odessa Texas, Katherine Tyson Hobbs N.M.; eight grandchildren, Michael Hornsby, Kendall Lipscomb Jr., Christina Lipscomb, Odessa Texas, De’Vante Lipscomb, Ka’Miah Morris, Kristopher Taylor, Kylie Taylor, and Kaedon Lee Taylor, all of Hobbs N.M.; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Hornsby, and Aven Hornsby, of Odessa Texas; one sister, Janice McKoy of Moncure, NC; two brothers, Pilgrim McIver Jr. and Phillip McIver of Sanford, NC; one uncle, Reverend William Tyson (Mildred) of Tarboro NC; three good friends, Robert Jones, John Berkley, and Charles Stewart; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
