Robert Scurlock, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Robert Lewis Scurlock, Sr., age 81 of Pittsboro, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Chatham Hospital - UNC in Siler City, NC.

Obituary

Mr. Robert Scurlock, Sr., decisively closed the door to life and entered the Gloryland Way on Monday, February 10, 2025, at UNC Chatham Hospital in Siler City, NC. Born to the late Ms. Henrietta Scurlock, he grew up surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, and his grandmother, Ionia, who played prominent roles in his upbringing. Known affectionately as "Bob," he attended Horton High School, where he met his future wife, Ms. Marsha Dale Richardson. He graduated in 1961 and went on to receive exceptional on-the-job training at UNC Hospitals, becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon's Assistant. After a successful 37-year career, he retired to pursue his true passion, travel. This enthusiasm led him to establish the Pittsboro Traveler’s Club, which coordinated numerous trips to various states and exciting cruises. The annual Fourth of July trips became highly anticipated by everyone involved.

Later, he joined his wife in the family business, Scurlock’s Catering, where he took pride in serving as the master carver of meats. Bob was an integral part of St. Matthew’s AME Zion Church, stepping into many roles, including Pastor's Steward, Sunday School Superintendent, and Choir President.

He shared a remarkable 60-year marriage with Mrs. Marsha Richardson Scurlock, and together they raised one son, Robert Scurlock, Jr., and one daughter, Michelle Scurlock-Alston.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, including his devoted wife, Mrs. Marsha Scurlock; his children, Robert Scurlock, Jr. (Janice) and Michelle Scurlock-Alston (Michael); and his granddaughter, Jasmine Alston (Jazzyroo). He is also survived by his loving aunt, Linda Cheek (Colon); sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella Farrar; brothers-in-law, Mr. Harry Richardson and Mr. Johnny Richardson (Regina); his godchildren, Ms. Cathy Taylor, Mrs. Chontai Baldwin (Thomas), Mrs. Victoria Cotten (Taj), and Mrs. India Gardner (Tim), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bob never met a stranger; he took joy in sharing interesting stories with everyone he encountered. He often informed the younger generation about their relatives and explained their connections. Kind and respectful to all, Bob's impact on those around him will never be forgotten.
