Redell Buie Obituary

Mr. Redell Buie, age 81, of Cameron, NC, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Liberty, NC.

The Obituary

Redell Buie, the son of the late John D. and Leecy Gilchrist Buie, was born January 24, 1943. He departed this earthly life on November 7, 2024, at Womack Army Medical Cener at Fort Liberty, North Carolina after returning from a fishing trip on the Coast of North Carolina.

Redell attended Ridgeway Elementary School in Swann Station, North Carolina and was a member of the 1961 graduation class of Johnsonville High School in Cameron, North Carolina.
While in High School he was a member of the varsity basketball team, the Johnsonville Eagles. His most contested rival was W.B. Wicker, although he married a “Wicker Tiger”.

After high school, Redell was employed with Singer Furniture Company and later met his future bride, Albertine Boykin. They joined in holy matrimony on June 19, 1965. To this union were born two sons Redell Bernard Buie and Reginald Buie.

Redell was a dedicated employee at local industries, retiring from Weyerhaeuser Company in Moncure, North Carolina after 33 years of loyal and faithful service. He traveled through the storm, rain, sleet, and snow, determined to get to work and to be on time. During the 33 years, he very seldom missed a day of work. Before retiring, he received special recognition for his excellent ethics.

Redell was a member of Fair Promise A.M.E. Zion Church, where he attended until his wife’s health declined. Even then, he faithfully supported the church financially. His favorite leisure activity was fishing on the pier at Surf City, where he and Albertine spent much of their free time at their beach home.

Redell was preceded in death his father, John D. Buie; mother, Leecy Gilchrist; stepmother, Lucille Harrington Buie; grandparents, George and Lottie Gilchrist; who helped rear him after losing his mother at an early age; two brothers, Zander Buie and John W. Buie; one sister, Larphenia Johnson; and one stepsister, Delois Redwine.

Redell leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 59 years, Albertine Buie of the home; sons, Redell Bernard Buie of Cameron, NC and Reginald Buie (Karen) of Knightdale, NC; two adorable grandchildren (the twins) whom he loved dearly; Reginald Buie and Kayla Buie of Knightdale, NC; sisters, Mary Graham (Johnnie) of Lemon Springs, NC, Carolyn Buie of Oliva, NC, Barbara Melvin of Fayetteville, NC, Janet McIver (Donald) of Fayetteville, NC, Angela Love of Cameron, NC; one brother; Ricky Nelson Buie (Lisa) of Sanford, NC; special nieces, Iris Johnson of Dallas, NC and Leecy Johnson of Charlotte, NC; aunts, Gloria Gilchrist of Baltimore, Maryland, Margaret Speed of Cameron, NC; sisters-in-law, Marion Buie, Lisa Buie, and Nancy Boykins Person (James); brothers-in law, Bishop Johnnie Graham; Elder Curtis Boykin (Jean), and Victor Boykin (Kelli); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
