Mr. Raymond Sylvester Lassiter, age 81 of Carthage NC, transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the FirstHealth Hospice House in West End, NC.
Raymond Sylvester Lassiter was born July 7, 1939, to the late Dave Toomer and Mamie Lassiter Atwater. Raymond answered the master’s call sleeping peacefully on July 30, 2021, at First Health Hospice House in West End, NC.
Raymond received his education through Chatham County School Systems. He worked as a gravedigger for Smith’s Funeral Home of Moncure as well as hauled pulpwood for many years.
He joined Liberty Chapel Church and under the leadership of Apostle Norma Bryant where he remained faithful until his health declined. Raymond was married to Mary Norman for many years; they remained friends until the end.
Raymond was known by many as “Snowball”. His response was always sharp and what he felt was the truth. Many could say he had enough mouth for two sets of teeth! His house was known as the hood hang out, being the most popular for having the first cordless phone in the neighborhood. If you wanted people to keep in touch with you, just have them call 542-2395. He made sure you always got the message.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters Amelia Lassiter and Katrina “Jeanette” Lassiter. His siblings Nettie Mae Toomer Brooks and Thomas Davis Toomer. He leaves to cherish his memories, three stepsons: Perry Norman of Sanford, NC, Johnny Mack Norman (LaQuanda) of Moncure, NC, and Alfred McLaughlin of Graham NC. Three sisters: Evelyn Rory of Baltimore MD, Lucille Thomas of Brooklyn, NY, and Jeanette Lee of Pittsboro, NC. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Godchildren” Darlene Taylor (William), Julius “Tede” Carnegie, Charity Lassiter Ross (Lamar), and Louis Lassiter, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
