Raymond Jerome Barnes, age 57 of Sanford, NC passed Sunday, March 22, 2020 at The Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro, NC.
A BRIEF OVERVIEW ON THE LIFE OF RAYMOND JEROME BARNES
Raymond Jerome Barnes, the oldest son born to Mr. Raymond Dexter Barnes and Mrs. Marian McLean Barnes on May 2, 1962, in Lee County, transitioned at the age of 57 years old from earth to his heavenly reward on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at The Laurels of Chatham Nursing Home Facility, Pittsboro, North Carolina, following a lengthy illness.
Jerome attended Lee Senior High School and worked at Caterpillar as a Materials Handler for many years. Even though Jerome did not have any children, he did have a god-daughter whom he adored. Jerome loved to watch football games and attend family gatherings especially cookouts. He was an avid UNC sports fan, especially the football and basketball teams.
Jerome joined Fair Promise AME Zion Church as a youth and sang with the Family In Christ Gospel Singers as a young adult.
His father, Raymond, preceded him in death as well as his maternal grandparents, Mr. John Lewis McLean and Mrs. Katie McLean and his paternal grandparents Mr. Harry and Mrs. Emma Barnes.
Jerome leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Marian McLean Barnes; one sister, Tara Barnes of Fayetteville; two brothers, Tony Barnes of Durham, and Christopher Barnes of Kansas; beloved god-daughter, Ms. Shawanna Pinckey; four aunts: Jerlene Thomas, Theodora Brown, Agnes Brooks, and Sadie R. Horton. A very special uncle and aunt, Henaro and Brenda Barnes of Sanford; special nephews, (Jamal & Jeremiah Barnes, J’Meal Barnes, Damian & Antonia Barnes) and nieces, (J’Nessa Houghton & Sariah Barnes); special “sister” friend, Sarah Dowdy, and his road dog as he affectionately called her; two special cousins, Syrus and Darryl Barnes. He also leaves a host of relatives and special caretakers at Laurel of Chatham who will always remember him.
