It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ray Robertson Jr., who departed this life on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was 78 years young.
Born on September 30, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, Ray was the beloved son of the late Ray Robertson Sr. and Willie May Beal. He spent his formative years in Los Angeles and later moved to Sacramento, where a significant chapter of his life began. It was there that he met and married Renate Schibilski, lovingly embracing her three children, William, Nicole, and Juan (Johnny), as his own.
Ray was a skilled drycleaner by trade. He and his family established and operated a successful drycleaning business, serving their community with dedication until their retirement. Seeking to be closer to their son Johnny and their cherished grandchildren, Ray and Renate relocated to Sanford, North Carolina, where he quickly became an integral part of the local community.
Ray possessed a profound passion for helping others and actively engaged in various non-profit organizations as well as founding his own, Neighborhood Network. He dedicated his time to mentoring young people throughout the community, sharing his wisdom and perspective, and positively shaping the lives of many. Ray and his beloved wife, Renate, were known for their warm and generous hearts, treating their friends as if they were family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Renate, and his son, Juan "Johnny."
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children, William McDougal, Nicole Willoughby; son-in-law, Darryl Willoughby; one adoring grandson; four granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters; one sister, Bettie Hookfin; one brother, Bernard Robertson; and one nephew, Roy (Fuji) Anderson Sr. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Ray's legacy of kindness, community spirit, and unwavering love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
