Prince Richmond Swann

On Sunday, January 9, 2022, God in his infinite wisdom calmly and peacefully called to eternal rest our beloved Prince Richmond Swann.

Prince was born on February 10, 1938, to Henry and Mamie Gilmore Swann in Harnett County. To this union there were five boys, Frank, Curtis, Prince, Mack and Leslie. Three (Mack, Frank and Curtis) preceded him in death.

He graduated from Johnsonville High School and then enlisted his service in the United States Army. After his military service, Prince also known as “PR” held a plethora of jobs and occupations. He was the Bar Manager at the Sanford Country Club and Sanford BPOE, worked at SanLee Chevrolet, Dossenbach’s Furniture, and Manager at Mack’ and Maxway Stores in Sanford and Spring Lake. One of his favorite jobs was that of living between Sanford and Pompano Beach, Florida as the Personal Assistant to Mack’s Co-founder, Doyle McFarland. He retired from GKN Automotive Components Inc. as Human Resources Manager.

On August 13, 1964, he was united in holy matrimony with Gwendolyn Cornelius. They resided in Swann Station.

Early in his childhood, Prince joined Love Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Swann Station and was a very active and devoted member until his failing health. His church work included Trustee, Senior Choir, and Male Chorus.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Gwendolyn Cornelius Swann of the home; one brother, Leslie Swann of Swann Station N.C.; one brother-in-law, William Cornelius of San Rafael, CA.; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cornelius Swann of LaGrange, N. C., Nezzie Cornelius Torres of Bowie, M.D., and Cathryn Reives Cornelius of Apex, N.C.; god daughter and niece Angela Cornelius Hill (Corey) of Durham, N.C.; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Prince was a dedicated husband, son, brother, a loyal church member, uncle and friend to many. He will truly be missed.
