Percy Lee McLean (Smitty) was born on April 24, 1955, in Sanford, NC to the late Minnie Lee Smith and Sylvester McLean.

He transitioned from life on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

Percy met his wife, Stella at Greenwood School. Percy was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed working on cars, riding on his lawn mower. He loved his family, cookouts, and talking junk. He worked many jobs and retired from Pentair Ltd. after seventeen years.

Percy and Stella were married on November 9, 1974, in Bennettsville, SC. He attended New Generation Church in Sanford, NC.

Percy was preceded in death by his siblings, Ernest McLean, William Smith, Henry J. McLean, Jimmy Smith, James McLean, Linda F. Martin, Zelma Smith, Devolar McLean, and one brother-in-law, Paul Gilmore.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Stella (Lou) McLean; three sons, Percy Gilmore (Kimberly) of Sanford, NC, Walter Gilmore of the home, and SirMir Marks of California; one daughter, Comeisha Marks of Georgia; three grandsons, Anthony Perry, Antonio Gilmore of Sanford, NC, and Raquan Marks of Georgia; two granddaughters, Jah’Kariyah Dorsett, Joss’lyn Marks of Georgia; two step granddaughters, Kendra Collins and Jacqueline Collins of Sanford, NC; two great-grands, Zahmere Perry and Zariah Perry; two sisters-in-law, Treva McLean and Betty Gilmore of Sanford, NC; a special aunt, Geneva Headen; a special niece whom he loved as a granddaughter, Divyion McLean of Sanford, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
