Pastor Lulu Battle, age 89 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Pastor Lulu Battle transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. She was born on June 12, 1934, in Lemon Springs, NC to Henry and Hattie Battle and had ten sisters and brothers.
She attended W.B. Wicker High School in Lee County, NC. During the early 50’s she and her sisters moved to Brooklyn, NY. She accepted Christ into her life and joined Deliverance Evangelistic Center, under the late Apostle Arturo Skinner. She was a faithful member for many years and served on the usher board.
She worked hard, many times working two and three jobs, sending money home to help take care of the family. She was a licensed hairdresser and worked at the US Post Office where she retired. Years later, she returned home and felt the call of God to start a ministry. She founded and was the Senior Pastor of Deliverance Evangelistic Center, along with Rev. John Battle for more than twenty-five years.
Pastor Lulu had a deep love for God and was a praying woman. She traveled all over the world, was consecrated, dedicated, strong willed, and very independent. So many things could be said about her life. She began each year with a twenty-one day shut in of praying and fasting, and every evening after 7 PM. She made it known that she would not be opening her door nor answering her phone to anyone during that time.
Pastor Lulu was a loving and caring person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She loved her family, friends, and neighbors who also loved her, took good care of her, and making sure she had what she needed. Just to name a few, her nieces, Rosa Goings, Barbara Johnson, Jackie Lee, and Joyce Ray; nephew, James Belton; cousin, Delores McClean; and neighbors Rosetta Dykes, Edmon Green, and so many others.
She was the last surviving of eleven children from the offspring of the late Henry and Hattie Battle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hattie Battle; siblings, Lena Headen, Mattie Williams, Rev. Lorraine Battle, Cassie Belton, Laney Battle, Roberta Floyd, Wilbert Battle, Thomas Battle, and Robert Battle; one grandson, Herman J. Morris, Jr.; her puppy and “her baby” Pepo.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Denese Morris (Bishop Herman J. Morris) of Sanford, NC; four grandchildren, Alicia Sharpe (Dwayne) of Columbia, SC; Crystal Davis (Bobby) of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Yolanda Morris of Washington, DC; David Morris (Kimberly) of Atlanta GA; four great-grandchildren, Kalah, Isaiah, Brooke, and Kamryn; one great-great-grandson, Legend; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
