Obie Sullivan Hooker

Obie Sullivan Hooker, age 62 of 71 Whetstone Dr., Angier, NC passed on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Central Harnett Hospital. 

In the wee hours of the morning on May 10, 2019, the Lord reached down to pluck a beautiful flower, Obie Sullivan Hooker, born April 27, 1957 to the late Mary Owens Hooker and Walter R. “Bob” Hooker.

Obie lived life to the fullest, he found joy in making those around him smile, his laugh was infectious and if you were in the room you could not help but laugh.

Obie graduated from Sanford Central High School in 1976. In his earlier years he had a passion for driving school bus #14. If you were back in the day you would understand his true love for driving the school bus. Obie was a member of Blandonia Presbyterian Church. He loved his church family and was an active member of the Male Choir. He was always willing to help when needed at this church. Obie was employed with Pinnacle Fire System Inc. for many years.

Obie had a passion for bowling with his brothers and his sister at Kendale Lanes in Sanford. He later continued bowling at Buffaloe Lanes South in Raleigh where he developed life long friends.

Obie was a family man, kindhearted, soft spoken, genuine, and a loving man. His love for his siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was undeniable.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his son, Derrick Dwayne Hooker; daughter, Nina Hooker  Gibson (Robert) of Sanford, NC; five brothers, Walter “Leon” Hooker, Michael Hooker (Barbara), Frederick Hooker (Lynn), Herbert Hooker (Donna), Kenneth Hooker, all of Sanford, NC; one sister, Marilyn Diane Jefferies (Franklin) of Columbia, SC; a special son, Anthony “Butler” Edwards (Debbie) of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Corine Edwards of Sanford, NC; five grandchildren, Marissa McRae (fiancé, Jeremy McMillan) of Durham, NC; Jasmine Graves of Virginia, Brandon McRae of Havelock, NC, Derrick Dwayne Hooker Jr., Diamond and Cameron Evans all of Sanford, NC; great grandchildren, Theo McRae, Talenah McRae both of Havelock, NC and Matthew Cabarea of Virginia; Rick and Teresa Shores of Apex, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends along with the dogs, Dozer and Bella. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 7:00pm at 2009 Hope St., Sanford, NC .
