O'Velma Williams Obituary

Ms. O’Velma Lucille (Nettles) Williams was born on March 26, 1938, to the late Colon Alfred and Irene Harris Nettles in Chatham County, NC. She peacefully entered in eternal rest on July 28, 2026, at Highfield Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cary, NC.

At a young age, she accepted Christ and join Mt. View AME Zion Church, where she was an active member serving on the Usher Board, Steward Boards, Mission Department, Special Fund Raiser, Plate Sales, the T. H. McKay Scholarship supporter; Food Committee Chair and has donated chairs and tables for the Fellowship Hall.

O’Velma was raised in Chatham County where she attended Gum Springs School and graduated from Horton High School. After high school, she attended Cortez Peters Business School in Baltimore, MD. While in Baltimore, her great uncle got her a job at Goucher College where he worked until she decided to return home.

Upon returning home, she began working at Webster Poultry Plant and was there for over 40 years. O’Velma was a caregiver as she took care of her parents when they became ill. After her father passed, she took training and became a caregiver working for Home Care and as an in-home caregiver until her health began to decline. Taking care of people is something she enjoyed.

O’Velma was preceded in death by her son, Burnice Williams Jr; her siblings, Irene, Clinton, Vernell, and Herman Nettles; friend Robert Pennix; sisters-in-laws, Narva “Novella” Nettles, Cozetta Nettles, Mozella Worley, Carolyn Cotten, and Ida Cotten; brothers-in-law, Edward Baldwin, Gerald Williams, Willard Williams, and Harry Williams and nephews, Herman Nettles and Kelvin Baldwin.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Rhonda Headen and son Alfred Williams; five grandsons Durell Headen (Lanikitta), Darrick Headen (Samantha), Tyler Williams, Jordan Williams and Jahvel Glover and 14 great-grandchildren Kier, Kamden, Jah’rylah, and King Rico Williams; Da’Mari, Da’Marcus and Ayden Headen; Serenittee, Sage, Sariyah, Sianna and Ariana Headen, Samiyah Cotton, Braylin Rives; brother William Nettles of Washington, DC; goddaughter Arien Pattrice Whitted; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved so dearly.

O’Velma will be remembered for her love for family, her kindness, and willingness to help others in time of need.
