Nina Lenora (Street) Verbal

Nina Lenora Verbal, age 76 of 2702 Farrel Road, Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sanford, NC.

The Obituary 

On Saturday, December 20, 2020, Nina Lenora Street Verbal transitioned to be with the Lord while at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford NC. She was 76 years old.  

Nina was the youngest of eight children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene and Bessie Street of Sanford NC. She found the Lord early on in life and attended Mt. Nebo Baptist Church as a child along with her siblings.  Nina completed her formal education in the Lee County School System and graduated from W.B. Wicker School in 1962.  She was an active member of the James Hill Chapter Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron, and as well, the G. Wesley Allen #324 Order of the Golden Circle where she served as Supervisor over the Gleaners, both positions, well over twenty years until the decline of her health.  She was an avid cook and nutritionist at Blandonia Presbyterian Church.  She was also employed at First Presbyterian Church of Sanford in the same position.  Nina had a love for people. She loved to sing and had a voice like no other and was always asked to sing for many social and church events.

She is preceded in death by her husband of thirty five years, Mr. Otis Verbal Sr.; her two brothers, Mr. James Street of Sanford, NC and Mr. Warren Street of Miami FL.

Nina is survived by her daughter, Ms. Monica Saunders of Durham NC; her son Otis Verbal Jr., of Erwin NC.  She was the grandmother of six grandchildren, Mrs. Kachina (Jason) Byrd of Durham NC., Mr. Troy Saunders Jr.  of Manhattan NY,  Mr. Julion Saunders of Detroit MI, Mr. Jeremy Verbal of Laurel MD, Ms. Tina Verbal of Charlotte NC, and Ms. Gabrielle Verbal of Fayetteville NC.  Nina also has four great grandchildren that she leaves to mourn, Kimani Cotton, Jaden Byrd, Janae Byrd, of Durham, NC, and the newest addition to the family Brooklynn Verbal of Laurel MD;  five sisters, Mrs. Stella Haywood of Camden NJ, Mrs. Geneva McCormick of Babylon NY,  Mrs. Velma Ethridge of Appling GA,  Mrs. Alma Medley (Issac) of Sicklerville NJ. and Ms. Evelyn Davis of Hamden CT.  She also has two surviving sisters -in law, Mrs. Esther Street of Sanford NC and Magalene Wilson of Miami, Florida. Nina has a loving host of nieces, nephews, and close relatives and friends that will truly miss her. She was loved by everyone who came in contact with her. She was a little lady with a BIG Personality, who never met a stranger.  Her memory will live on through each of us.
