Obituary

Nannie C. Taylor was a woman of true virtue and grace. Born on March 31, 1952, in Lee County, to the late Charles Albert and Nannie Covington. She was raised in Sanford, North Carolina’s Ward community before joining her soulmate, Harold Taylor in marriage. They eventually settled in Moncure, NC, where they built a beautiful life and raised two children, Rachel and Harold Jr. (Darnell). Together, they shared 55 years of marriage.

As a devoted wife and supermom, Nannie’s life was defined by her quiet sacrifices and fierce dedication to her family’s well-being. Her home was her sanctuary—always kept immaculate—and her green thumb was extraordinary. Travelers along Moncure Pittsboro Road often stopped their vehicles to admire the stunning landscape she and Harold maintained, a reflection of the care and beauty she brought into the world.

Nannie possessed a beauty that radiated from the inside outward. A woman of elegance and quiet strength, she was a pillar of wisdom for both her immediate and extended family. In every walk of life, she carried herself with the poise of a true lady. By living her life as a testament of her faith, she truly let her light shine openly to inspire others.

Nannie was gifted with a melodic voice; a talent she embraced to glorify God throughout her entire life at Ward Memorial Church. As a devoted member of the Sunlight Singers, she gave generously of her time and spirit, rarely missing a service or rehearsal. Her leadership was brightly displayed through her work on the church’s Program Committee, where she would spend weeks meticulously preparing for revivals.

Nannie’s heart for ministry extended to the House of Prayer Fellowship Church—her mother’s home church where her oldest sister serves as Pastor—there she was blessed to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was also cherished as the soaring soprano of the Covington Sisters, a precious bond of harmony she shared with her sisters for many years.

After graduating from Lee County schools, she spent her early career in the manufacturing industry. She later developed an interest in Dentistry and pursued a dental assistant training program under the direction of Dr. Love through the University of North Carolina. Her career spanned the insurance sector before she progressed into the banking and financial industries, where she enjoyed a successful career until her retirement from Wells Fargo.

Nannie was remarkably gifted with her hands, possessing a creative spirit that touched the lives of those around her. A talented seamstress, she spent her early years crafting clothing for her family. Whether she was sewing clothes or crafting holiday wreaths for the community, her creative work was always filled with care.

Nannie’s true happy place was among her flowers and garden. This lifelong passion began in her youth, where she worked alongside her father, learning the hard work and artistry of gardening and farming.  She didn't just grow flowers and vegetables—she knew exactly how to cultivate them to flourish.

Nannie loved to travel and see new places. She would always prepare well in advance before her journeys.  She would seek out unique gift shops and boutiques on her travels. She had a keen eye for beautiful things to brighten up her home or closet.

Nannie was a humble and authentic woman; always concerned about others. Her compassion wasn't just a sentiment; it was a calling. She possessed a true 'ministry of help,' instinctively knowing where she was needed and showing up at the right time without being asked. From the devoted care she provided her parents and husband during their health challenges to her consistent visits with those in need, she was a constant, hands-on presence that offered her unwavering support. She was a devoted wife who loved her husband. She was proud of her son and daughter, who exemplify the deposits she instilled in them. She also adored her two granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with them.

Nannie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles Albert and Nannie Covington; siblings, Naomi Harris and Alfred Covington; and in-laws, James Thomas and Pam Covington.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Harold Taylor (Moncure, NC); daughter, Rachel Jenkins and son-in-love, LeVale (Bowie, MD); son, Harold Darnell Taylor, Jr. and daughter-in-love Shayla (Wake Forest, NC); granddaughters, Eden Taylor and Sierra Jenkins; sisters, Annie Glover (Melvin) (Siler City, NC), Irene Caldwell (Coley) (Sanford, NC), Shirlene Thomas (New Hill, NC); brothers-in-love, Derek Harris (Sanford, NC), Jerry Taylor (Diane) (Greensboro, NC), Maurice Taylor (Francine) (Kernersville, NC); sisters-in-love, Helen Alston (Youngsville, NC), Sylvia Taylor (Durham, NC); predeceased brothers-in-love, Bernice Taylor and William Alston; godchildren, Rodney Reaves (Wake Forest, NC); Bradley Caldwell (Durham, NC); and an abundance of nieces, nephews and friends to remember her life and share memories.

Nannie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, humility and radiant beauty. Let us carry forward the memory of Nannie’s spirit: her strength, faith, gift for song, and immense capacity to love. She brought beauty into the world not just through her presence, but through the meticulous care she gave her family, home and those who she held dear.
