Ms. Moleta Waddell Freeman, age 102 of Pittsboro, NC into eternal rest on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Health Care in Pittsboro, NC.
Moleta was born in Randolph County on February 28, 1920, to Mr. Charles and Mrs. Minnie Waddell. Moleta was the middle child of three girls.
Moleta was married to Hayes Kirby of Chatham County, Theodore Freeman of Chatham County, and Wilbert Atwater of Orange County.
Moleta worked at Horton School as a cafeteria worker. She later became a home caregiver. Moleta was well known for her cooking, especially her famous pound cake and apple pies, “just ask the grandchildren”
At an early age, Moleta accepted Christ into her life. She attended St. Andrews Congregational Church regularly. She later joined St. James Episcopal Church where her duty was the treasurer for the Episcopal Church where she filled the role of the Alter Guild and lay reader.
Moleta was devoted to her church and family. She loved cooking and spending time with them, especially the grandchildren.
Moleta was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sisters, Ruth Horton and Mildred Austin, as well as her son, Franklin Kirby (Sarah).
She is survived by two sons, Rudolph Kirby (Louvenia) and Wayne Freeman (Denise) of Pittsboro, NC; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a special niece, Dr. Stella Horton of New Jersey; special caregiver, Rita Cotton; and a host of relatives and friends.
