Mr. Micheal McLeod, age 64 of Richlands, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
Micheal was born to the late Fannie Jean Heck Vaughan and William Nathaniel McLeod in Sanford, NC. Following graduation from Lee Senior High, Micheal joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country for over a decade as a Field Radio Operator, Radio Chief, and Recruiter.
Micheal received numerous decorations including the Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Rifle Expert Badge, and Pistol Marksman. Following his military service, Micheal continued his career as a Long Haul Driver and Manufacturing Engineer before his health took a decline. Brother Mike, Uncle Mike, and Mr. Mike, as he was often referred to as, enjoyed counseling friends and young family members and providing encouragement. Micheal was also a lover of dogs, including his faithful travel buddy “AJ”.
Preceding him in death including his parents were his son Paul Murchison, and brother Ralph Vaughan Jr., grandparents Gurley H. and Lena Mae Heck, Wilbert Alston, and Bessie Mcleod.
Left to cherish his memories are Merrell Mcleod, son, Devonte Murchison, grandson, his brother Victor Harris Vaughan (Tammy), and aunt Roberta Davis (Raynard). Special thanks to cousins Tamika Smith and Kayren Heck, the Morris family, and Josephine Lucas for your continued support of Micheal during his illness. Micheal also leaves numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Semper Fi!
A public viewing will be held at Knott's Funeral Home on Sunday, January 10th from 12 noon until 6 pm. Michael will be laid to rest at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in a private ceremony.
