Ms. Medena Rochun Gunter, age 61, of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.
Obituary
Medena Rochun Gunter was born on August 26, 1964, in Orange County to the late Clavon Earl Gunter and Shirley Stewart Gunter. On April 23, 2026, Heaven received an angel.
Medena attended Northwood High School and later continued her education at Central Carolina Community College where she received her GED. She also attended Monarch & Bridges of Hope, where she completed life‑skills and educational programs.
She was known for her strong work ethic and dependability, working faithfully for numerous employers throughout her life, including Allied, Townsend and CJ’s Grill.
Medena enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, and preparing her well‑loved macaroni and cheese, which was the best in town. Her presence brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clavon Earl Gunter and Shirley Stewart Gunter; one son, Darrelle O'Brian "OB" Gunter; siblings, Dianah and Thomas Stewart; grandparents, Excie and Lizzie Stewart, Atlas Gunter, and Flossie Gunter; a longtime special friend, William Judd, and a special son‑in‑law, Jerome Johnson “PJ”.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her three children, Reginald Gunter of the home, Preosha Johnson of Guilford County, and Teliah Tabon of Franklinton, NC; ten grandchildren: Zhaliah, Kenya, Mariah, Jayvier, London, Kyliah, Chloe, Ava, Joaquin, and Juliana; two sisters, Veronica Gunter of Durham, NC and Nita Gunter of the home; one special nephew, Arthur Gunter (Tiffany Gunter) of Moncure; one god sister, Mary Ann Harrington; special friends, Sharon Lindsey, Delanie Harrington, Annette Judd “Mrs. Cookie”, “Big Homie” Maurice Johnson and Darryl Trapp; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Medena’s legacy of love, resilience, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
