Obituary
On Saturday, January 10, 2026, the angels of Mercy descended from heaven and escorted Mary Cameron Jenkins-Scott peacefully into the presence of Almighty God.
Mary was born on March 12,1943 to Ruby Gillis Cameron and Abraham Cameron. She was the third child in a family of ten children. Boot, as she was fondly called, quickly became the “Apple of Abraham`s Eye”, and he was often heard expressing that he would not take ten thousand dollars in exchange for Boot!
Mary began her Christian journey at Spout Springs Presbyterian Church where she attended throughout her childhood. As an adult, she joined and became an active member of Johnsonville AME Zion Church and she maintained her membership there for the rest of her life. As a member of Johnsonville, she faithfully served on the Usher Board, the Stewardess Board, as well as the Missionary Society.
Upon graduating from Johnsonville High School, she joined the workforce; her career spanning thirty years until her retirement. During her retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the country and to the Caribbean. Mary was an expert culinary artist and was a master baker. She was widely known for her sweet potato pies as well as many specialty cakes.
After enjoying her retirement for several years, she became ill and unfortunately, it turned out to be a lengthy one. During this time, Denez, her only surviving son, was her lifeline who tended to all of her needs on a daily basis. As the illnesses continued to persist and she required more intense care, Denez was consistently there for his mother.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Andre Jenkins; two brothers, Lemuel and Kenneth Wayne; and two sisters, Frances and Elizabeth.
To cherish her memories, she leaves her beloved son, Joseph Denez, of the home; three brothers, Ronald L. Cameron, Sr. (Wanda) of Southern Pines, NC, Charles E. Cameron, Sr. (Charlene), of Cameron, NC, Lewis Cameron (Linda) of Cameron, NC; three sisters, Shirley Robinson (Robert) of Ellicott City, MD, Brenda Cameron Davis (Warren) of Cameron, NC, Gail Cameron Mays of Cameron, NC; two granddaughters, Marie Suzette "Susie" and Shay Ross; two great grandchildren, Julian Michael "Mikey" and Niko Ryan "Nick"; four sisters in-law, Mable Sanders, Nancy Scott, Mary Jenkins, and Nellie Jenkins; one brother in-law, Willie Gray, Jr.; two uncles, Henry Odell Cameron and Odell King; one great aunt, Sallie Ann Hailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
