Mary Helen Raines

Mary H. Toomer Raines departed her life peacefully on April 30, 2022, at her home in Southern Pines, NC. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Mary was born on January 23, 1944, in Wayne County. She attended W.B Wicker School in Sanford, NC. She later moved to Southern Pines NC and was employed at Moore Regional Hospital. Mary was very gifted in singing and arts and crafts. She was a very handywoman in the home. Mary could fix anything broken.

She is preceded in death by her father Henry M. Toomer of Goldsboro, NC, and one son, Calvin Raines.

Mary is survived by her spouse, Clarence Raines of Raleigh, NC.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children Angela Barkley (Chris) and Rodney Raines; both of Southern Pines, NC. Two grandchildren; Fabian Jackson (Kali) of St. Cloud, FL, and Lauren Jackson (Bear) of Charlotte, NC. Seven great-grandchildren. Her mother, Sadie H. Covington of Southern Pines, NC. Sister Carolyn Toomer Terry (James), Jessie McIver (Tina) of Charlotte, NC, and brother Lewis Toomer, all from Southern Pines, NC. Stepbrother Jessie McIvery (Tina) of Charlotte, NC. Two uncles; Hubert and Herbert Covington of Hartford, CT. One godson Sarod Smith. A host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
