Strong, compassionate, loving – The Lord knew he needed an angel to demonstrate these qualities here on Earth.
Born January 10, 1954, to John Archie Cross and Mary Elizabeth (Knight) Cross in Chatham County. She was a graduate of Horton High in 1972. A faithful and dedicated worker, no job was too hard for Mary. She was employed through Allied/Honeywell for 30 years. She retired and worked at the University of North Carolina for 12 years. She attended the local church, becoming a member, Staunton Memorial CME Church.
Mary Elma was a shining example of a devoted mother and phenomenal nana. She was big on family and loved family gatherings. Mary was such a loving and caring person. She always had a way of making everyone around her feel special and loved. Her kindness and compassion touched so many lives, including mine. Mary loved yard sales, trips to Walmart, yearly trips to Myrtle beach, painting, collecting figurines, cherished precious moments with her family, cleaning up on Saturday mornings to her favorite tunes (clean up woman), and loved to cook for her family. She loved the Lord and accepted him into her life at an early age, she often liked to write out her prayers being very specific for what she wanted in this life and for her family and friends. Although she was weak in her body, her faith remained strong and she would call on the name of Jesus, she knew her strength came from the Lord.
Left to cherish precious memories her children: Walisha Atkins (Eddie), Tonya Graves, Drell Milliken (Sunshine), Karla Glover (Desmond); her grandchildren: Jazmine Atkins, Tatiyonia Graves, Nautica Milliken, Chad Graves, Shaylah Glover, Mikaylah Glover, Darrien Milliken, Jada Graves, Brooklyn Glover, Dakyah, Charlie, Logan, Jaxxon; her two siblings: Wayne Cross (Laverne) and Lora Ann Bradley (Harvey); her sisters-in-law; her God-daughter: Brittany Bradley; and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends. She was a dog lover and adored Tiny Leon and Bailee Dakota.
She will be deeply missed, but her love and memories will continue to live on in our hearts.
