Obituary
Margie Johnson Hailey, daughter of the late Mr. Lonnie and Georgia Johnson, was born on October 14, 1938, in Sanford, North Carolina. She peacefully gained her wings on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Margie attended WB Wicker School and continued her education at Central Piedmont Community College.
Margie loved the Lord and was a faithful servant at NoDa Church of Christ until her health declined. During her time there, she actively participated in monthly Friday fellowships with fellow Christians from house to house. Prior to attending NoDa Church of Christ, Margie faithfully worshipped at the Sugar Creek Church of Christ in Charlotte, NC, for many years. She supported the ladies' ministries, Bible classes, and retreats, and she served faithfully by helping feed the homeless through the church’s soup kitchen. If there was a potluck, Margie was always happy to contribute. Those who knew her, remember Margie as sweet, loving, and caring person, who never met a stranger. She was a great encourager and a true inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was especially supportive of new authors by promoting and purchasing their books. If your idea or project was worthy, you had her blessing and verbal endorsement.
Margie always went beyond the call of duty in everything she did, whether at home, at church, at work, or at community events. She had a genuine passion for helping others and was known for her creativity, support, and encouragement. Her dedication and service to others were truly tireless. Margie retired from Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) after many years. She rejoined the workforce at University Adult Day Center with a passion to make a difference in the lives of the participants. Her compassion and kindness touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Lonnie and Georgia Johnson; brothers, Norman Johnson, Lawrence “Bubba” Johnson; sisters, Annie Bennett, Eloise Simmons, Madie “Peggy” Gilmore.
