Mrs. Margaret Virginia Heck McGee was born on June 10, 1932, to the late William Walton Heck Sr. and Helen Black Heck.
She answered her Savior's call on January 20, 2021, at 11:23 am. Margaret was a sweet, soft-spoken woman who loved God, her family, and her church family. She received her early education at the Lee County Training Center later graduating with her high school diploma.
Margaret was a member of Wall Street Baptist Church from her youth under the pastoral member through the ministry transition to First Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J. L. Morgan and Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Smith. Margaret had a heart of servitude in ministry and her calling as a Minstrel. She served the Lillie Akin Missionary Circles and was the Captain of the Pink Table during the Rainbow Tea for many, many years. She played the piano for Sunday School and VBS. She sang with the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, and Mass Choir. Margaret was so proud of the First Calvary Trio whose members Mrs. Julia Heck and Mrs. Nina Verbal preceded her in death.
Her love for music and the youth compelled her to partner with her best friend and cousin Mrs. Heck along with her niece Angela in gathering the youth in the community ages 7 to 18 to form the M.L.K. Community Choir. The late Marshall McAden accompanied them on the piano.
Preceding her in death were three sisters Susie Heck Martin (James), Deborah Heck Johnson (William), and Mildred Heck Murchison (Charles); three brothers William Walton Heck Jr., Fred Thomas Heck (Bertha), and George Heck (Marilyn); one daughter in law, Mary Johnson and one son in law, Jessie McLean.
Margaret was married to the late Willie Lee McGee on September 22, 1957, and to this beloved union and to cherish her memory five children were born: Audrey McLean, Cicero Johnson, Freddie McGee (Andrea), Tonya Petty (Tyrone), Jacquelyn Brittain, Carla Hayes (Joseph) all of Sanford; her brother Mr. James Martin Black (Evelyn) of Trenton NJ. Her legacy of love continues in the lives of her 20 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
88 years of love!
