Lynn McCormick, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Lynn Edward McCormick, Jr., "Little Bit", age 65, of Sanford, NC, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 28, 2025, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

Obituary

Lynn Edward McCormick Jr., of Sanford, NC, passed away on July 28, 2025, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.

Born on June 29, 1960, in Sanford, NC, Lynn was the beloved son of the late Aretha “Koot” Singletary McCormick and the late Lynn McCormick, Sr.

Lynn attended Sanford Central High School and went on to work at several local businesses, including Hallman Foundry, Magneti Marelli, Central Carolina Community College, and Lee Iron & Metal. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, Lynn was a valued and dependable employee wherever he worked.

More than anything, Lynn was full of life. He loved to laugh and entertain, always ready with a joke or story that kept everyone smiling. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing loudly, dancing, and never turned down a plate of his favorite foods—watermelon, chitterlings, and chicken. A loyal Carolina fan, Lynn truly was the life of the party and was deeply loved by many.

Lynn was preceded in death by his daughter, Ivy Lynn Gray; granddaughter, Kalie McLean; and brothers, Willie Singletary and Larry Chalmers.

He leaves behind cherished memories with his siblings, Robert “Bojack” Singletary (Anna) of Sanford, NC, Beverly Singletary McLean of Sanford, NC, Diane Singletary of Cleveland, OH, and Gloria Smith (Charles) of Springfield, TN.

Lynn was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Sophia, Julie, Kimora, Jacolby, Yescenia, Yukari, and Jacari.

He is also survived by his great-uncle, Daniel Singletary of La Porte, TX; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Chalmers of Sanford, NC and Donna Singletary of Fayetteville, GA; and he loved his beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

He held a special bond with his favorite nephew, Greg McLean of Sarasota, FL, and his longtime friends, Reggie Berryman, Shavonda Smith, William Lee, Binky and Terrance Watson. He also shared a close connection with cousins, Bobby Barnes, Dean Byers, Moe Singletary, and John Singletary.

A heartfelt thank you to his devoted caregivers—his nieces, Aretha Caldwell (Eric) and Dinetta Singletary—for their loving support and care.

Lynn’s laughter, warmth, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
