Luvenia Dowdy

Ms. Luvenia Dowdy, daughter of the late Mr. Joe (Peter) Dowdy and Mary Bell Dowdy, age 83 of Sanford, NC was called to be with the Lord and transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at her residence.

Luvenia attended Lee County Schools.

She later moved to East Orange New Jersey and worked for the state providing care for children whose parents were employed by the police department and schools’ system, but her most beloved job title was “Grandma”! She later moved back to North Carolina.

Luvenia was a devoted loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and friends as well as watching her favorite “soaps”, “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Joe (Peter) and Mrs. Mary Bell Dowdy; one son, Vondale Dowdy; one granddaughter, Shameka Dowdy; four sisters, Ms. Willie Mae Dowdy, Mrs. Emma Kate Dowdy Sumpter, Ms. Johnnie Bell Dowdy Womack, and Ms. Ivy Lee Dowdy; four brothers, June Dowdy, Clayton Dowdy, George Dowdy, and Bobby Lewis Dowdy.

Luvenia leaves to cherish her wonderful memories one daughter, Mrs. Sonau Dowdy Miller(Jessie); five sons, Mr. Roger Dowdy, Mr. Terry Dowdy(Mary), Mr. Linwood Dowdy, Mr. Michael Dowdy, and Mr. Robert Dowdy; nine grandchildren, Mrs. Lakinia Smith(Shyrone), Ms. Brittany Dowdy, Mr. Laquenton Dowdy, Ms. Kyhanna Dowdy, Ms. Zakeeya Dowdy, Ms. Zenobia Dowdy, Mr. Cortez Dowdy, Mr. Dontez Dowdy, and Ms. Honesty Dowdy; five great- grandchildren, Mr. Damel Gill, Ms. Damari Smith, Mr. Kaden Smith, Mr. Kameron Smith, and Mr. Zayne Dowdy; one sister, Ms. Gladyes Dowdy Womack; one sister-in-law, Ms. Dorothy Canzater Dowdy of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
