Lucy (Neville) Edwards
December 5, 1944 ~ January 12, 2024 (age 79) 79 Years Old
Mrs. Lucy Neville Edwards, age 79 of Carrboro, NC transitioned to eternal rest Friday, January 12, 2024 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Lucy N. Edwards journeyed to heaven Friday, January 12, 2024 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.
A native of Orange County, Lucy was born to the late Hubert and Elizabeth Neville on December 5, 1944.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Missionary, Usher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and on the Kitchen Committee. Her beautiful alto voice could also be heard singing in the Youth, Inspirational, and Traveling Choirs.
Lucy also attended First Baptist Church of Chapel Hill with her husband, the late Robert “Bob” Edwards, and served for many years on the Willing Workers and First Aid Clubs.
Lucy was educated in Chapel Hill, NC. She attended Northside Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1963. She graduated from Durham Technical Community College with a degree in Nursing in 1965. Following graduation, she was employed by N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, where she started her career caring for Cancer and Tuberculosis patients and later accepted a position in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In this position, she served faithfully for 35 years.
Lucy, and the love of her life, Bob, met when they were infants at the Health Department, riding in the same baby carriage. Over time, their love grew for each other, and they were joined in holy matrimony on July 5, 1965, and remained faithfully married for 58 years. To this union were born two children: Tonya Alisa and Robert Sebastian.
She was known as a distinguished and refined lady who exhibited a passion for fashion. To truly know her was to love her. She had a real flare for life and enjoyed many interests and hobbies, which included traveling and attending social events with Bob; shopping, making floral arrangements and other crafts like needlepoint and sewing.
Lucy’s most cherished moments were those spent with her family – especially with her loving husband.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, and by her brother David Neville. Her memory and love will always be cherished by her daughter Tonya Edwards-Haynes (Maurice), grandsons Jonathan, Marcus, and Christian; her son, Robert (Freda) and grandsons Robert and Caleb; brothers Morrison Neville (Keisha), Marion Neville, and her sister Linda Chalmers (Randy) and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
