Obituary

Ms. Lola Mae Smith Partridge, age 86 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at her residence in Pittsboro, NC.

Lola Mae was born May 1, 1936, to the late Ravin and Artie Lee Smith in Cape Fear, NC; she victoriously transitioned to be with the Lord on November 17, 2022 at home. She attended Haywood School in Moncure, NC and then graduated from Horton High School in 1954. Lola Mae, who was named after her aunt (Lola Mae Crump), joined Liberty Chapel Church at an early age. She was a member of The Relative Gospel Singers, The United Gospel Singers, The Miracle Singers, and The Divine Voices. She was also a Sunday school teacher and ushered on the first Sunday.

Affectionately known as “Mamae” to her grandchildren, she was a natural matriarch for the Smith family. She was wise beyond her years, and always had the answer for everything. She was always the person that everyone could lean on in times of trouble. Everyone knew if they called on Lola, she would be there without hesitation. The Bible says to train up a child in the way that they should go, and they will not depart from it. With that being said, Lola was trained to be an independent hard worker. She worked the majority of her life until her health failed. She started out in the field, with her father, brothers, and Paul McCoy. Then she worked as a nurse in New Jersey and also did domestic work in Chapel Hill, NC. She would do anything to make sure her family was taken care of and loved by all.

Although she has been through so many tragedies in her life, Lola never lost her faith. There was never a time that she doubted God whether she lost a loved one or was diagnosed with cancer, she never let it defeat her. She knew that God was going to grant her Victory. Lola was a funny, warm-hearted, loving person. She loved to watch Baseball, Family Feud, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune & the Resident. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cracking jokes, and doing crossword puzzles. One of her famous quotes was: ” just keep living”

Lola was preceded in death by her mother and father, Artie Lee and Ravin Smith; one sister, Linda "Lint" Smith; five brothers, William "Snook", George, Ravin "Shampoo", Donald, and Robert.  Her best friends, Paul McCoy and Vivian Crump.

She leaves to cherish her memories to her three daughters, Cheryl Partridge of Cary, NC, Alfreda Partridge of Pittsboro, NC, and Kris Partridge of the home; five grandchildren, Donyelle (Keshwin) Partridge of Graham, NC, SSgt. Cameron Partridge-Womble of Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM, Makayla Partridge, and Aubrey Byrd, both of Pittsboro, NC,  and Jayden Jefferies of the home; two great-grandchildren, D’Moni Partridge and Khloe Partridge of Sanford, NC, all whom she had a special relationship with and whom she loved and cared for dearly; two sisters, Carrie Lee Hackney and Helen Joann Matthews (Hubert) both of Moncure, NC; two special nieces, Carrie La’Vern Burnette (Stanley) of Moncure, NC and Angela Smith of Elizabeth City, NC; one special nephew, Raiford Smith of Silk Hope, NC; two aunts, Robena McCrimmon and Nora Smith both of Moncure NC; sisters in law, Dazelle Smith of Duncan, NC, Emma Smith, and Louise Smith, both of Pittsboro, NC; special cousins, Betty Stone, Barbara Bradley, Greta Foushee, Edward Gunter and Derry “Bud” Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
