Ms. Lillian Marie (Clinton) Powers, of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest Friday, January 26, 2024.
Lillian M. Powers aka Lil, Mommie, Ma Ma, Grandmother, Gi Gi, and Leein. Lillian Powers was an exceptional woman, a praying woman, and a goal-oriented woman. She was tenacious, intelligent, candid, honest, and caring. She loved mentoring younger people and was a firm believer in advocating for others.
Lillian M. Powers was born January 21, 1942 in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. She was a self-proclaimed, “Daddy’s Girl”. She was the third child out of seven children, four sisters, Bernice, Delores, Dana and Robbie; two brothers, James and Billy. Lillian M. Powers graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Southern Maryland.
After completing high school, Lillian successfully passed the Civil Service Exam. She then began a career as an Administrative Clerk at the District of Columbia Police Department. Due to her perseverance and dedication, she transferred to the Department of the Navy. There, she became an Administrative Supervisor and continued her career for twenty plus years until medically retired.
Years later, she became an entrepreneur as a civilian contractor for several military bases in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. In her spare time, she sold clothes at flea markets. After a medical setback, she again persevered and became a volunteer at the Outreach Community Center as a job consultant. She enjoyed traveling, water aerobics, walking, and living a healthier lifestyle. She even joined a Senior Club.
Lillian Powers married the love of her life, Louis Powers, in December 1975. She enjoyed life with him until his passing in 1991. She has five children: Blake Powers, Cynthia Jenkins, Quincy Brown (Ann), Tyrone Brown, and Ramona Robertson (Doug). She has nine grandchildren: Terrell, Toya (Terrance), Corneil, Vincent, Louis, Chanel (Percy), Devon, Abby, Joshua and Shy. She extended her love and care to Kenny, Renee, and Derrick. She has five great grandchildren: James, Hannah, Naomi, Rose and Heaven.
