Mrs. Leigh Ann Woods, age 55, of Cameron, NC, transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.
Leigh was born April 23, 1967, in Salinas, Kansas and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a military spouse she lived in several U.S. states spending a significant amount of time in Europe. During the 1st Gulf War, Leigh served on a casualty notification team for the 82D Airborne Division. In 1991 Leigh testified before a congressional committee on Fort Bragg NC concerning Family Readiness issues. Following the fall of the world trade center in September 2001, Leigh again served on family support & casualty notification teams for the 1st Armored Division, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team & the 191st Infantry Brigade.
Leigh's second career took place in the jewelry business earning her the nickname of, “The Gem Girl." After gaining certification from Pellissippi State in Gemology, she was an active trader in North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana.
An adventurous and studious person, Leigh enjoyed traveling the world to experience other countries, cultures, and histories -- collecting trinkets along the way. A convivial person, Leigh didn't know a stranger and she often struck up conversation with everyone she met.
Leigh is survived by her husband, Dennis Woods; daughter, Charlotte Woods-Kropf; sisters, Tama, Katy, Jenny; brothers, Keith, Paul, and Jason as well as several beloved friends.
