Leander Seymour Obituary

Mr. Leander Seymour, age 84, of Moncure, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at his residence. 

The Obituary

Leander Seymour, better known as “Lee” departed his life August 30, 2024.

He was born to the late, Manley D. Seymore and Betty A. Wilson Seymour on the Chatham and Wake County Line on July 9, 1940. Leander was one of seven children of Manley and Betty Seymore.

He went to Haywood school and then from there to Horton High School.

Leander left school to help his father and brothers in farming. He worked with multiple people in priming tobacco and one of them was The Parkers. Leander went on to held multiple jobs, construction, clean-up crew at Allied Chemicals and Pulpwood. He left those just to work at Webster Poultry and later changed to Townsend Foods where he retired from in 2002. While working at Townsend Foods, Leander worked a part time job at Ray’s Supermarket in Moncure.

Leander enjoyed the game of baseball in which he played some, but mostly watched others play at the neighborhood’s ball diamond in New Hill. He also was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tarheels basketball team.

Leander had a love of dancing which led him to meet his future wife, Ruby at a dance place called Casablanca. He also had a love of cooking and grilling and was always willing to help others with bar being a hog.

Leander knew everybody in his neighborhood of Moncure if not by name, always by face. Telling jokes and lies. Leander was a very talkative person and could out walk anybody around Moncure or other places for a small man he was strong as a bear with his hand grip, he could cripple or crush you.

Leander married Ruby Harrington on October 31, 1964. They had two children together, a girl and a boy, Julia “Batch” and Lee “Andy.” Julia went on to have five children and Lee had one child of his own and raised two others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manley and Betty Seymore; brothers, Eli, Huebert, Robert, and Paul; one sister, Robina Cameron; one brother-in-law, William Cameron; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Seymour and Mary J. Seymour; and one grandson, Jeffrey Alston.

Leander leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife of sixty years, Ruby Seymour of the home; a daughter, Julia S. Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; a son, Lee Seymour (Darice) of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Aretha “Rita”, James “JJ”, Arlene, Arletha, Jared, Tahleyah, and Shanice; great grandchildren, Malaiyah, Jared Jr., Caylin, Kenzlei, Karter, Camden, and Ashton; one sister-in-law, Mae Ruth Seymore; and one brother, James “Coot” Seymour. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends he loved.
