Laura Headen Obituary

Reverend Laura Belton Headen, 80, of Sanford, NC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Reverand Laura Mae Belton Headen made her heavenly transition on January 10, 2024, at Amicasa Home Care in Decatur, Georgia.  She was born on August 17, 1943, in Sanford (Jonesboro), NC to the late Woodrow Dodge Belton, Sr and Ada Mae Swann Belton.

Laura was a caring daughter to her parents and loving sister to her siblings.  At a young age, Laura developed leadership skills and those skills would serve her well in life. She graduated from W.B. Wicker Senior High School in 1961 and went on to receive an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Durham Business College in 1965.  She worked at COTY for 37 years, retiring in 2009 as the IT Helpdesk Administrator.

At an early age, Laura joined Star of Hope Freewill Baptist Church. As an adult, Laura joined and served faithfully at Mt. View AME Zion Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher.  In service to the Lord, Laura was ordained as a minister and elevated to the office of the Pastor. She served as the pastor of Mt. View AME Zion Church for 13 years.

Laura enjoyed hosting and entertaining in her home.  Everyone was always welcome, and she made everyone feel at home. Her home became the center for the Belton family gatherings, and she made sure her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews had traditions during the holiday season.  She loved her family deeply and celebrated with them regularly.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her brother, Woodrow Dodge Belton, Jr.

Laura leaves to cherish and honor her memory, her husband of 61 years, Rev. Ridie Edward Headen; two daughters, Arlene (Killis) Headen Hendricks of Snellville, GA and Tracy Headen of Sanford, NC; four grandchildren, Andre (Demetria) Heslip of Sanford, NC, Daniel Dunn of Snellville, GA, Tevin (Keara) Thomas of San Diago, CA, and Laura Dunn of Atlanta, GA;  four great-grandchildren, A’niyah Heslip, Andre Heslip, Jr., Tevin Thomas, Jr., and Ke’yontae Thomas; four sisters, Ellen Cameron of Charlotte, NC, Omelia Barnum of Lakeland, FL, Joyce Belton of Durham, NC, and Barbara (Marion) Weaver of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Valentenio (Peggy) of Durham, NC; one brother-in-law, Waldo (Minnie Pearl) Headen of Sanford, NC; one sister-in-law, Syrella Headen of Thomasville, NC; a very special sister-in-law, Fannie Headen of Sanford, NC; one uncle, Charles Swann of Sanford, NC; one aunt, Isabelle Chalmers of Baltimore, MD; one goddaughter, Catina Trapp of Youngsville, NC; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
