Latia Smith Obituary

Ms. Latia Iesha Smith, age 42 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Latia Ieshia Smith was born on October 30, 1981, in New Haven Connecticut to Cheryl Lucas-Smith and the late Oscar Smith Jr.

Known as just Tia, she was the sweetest, kindest person you would ever want to meet. Tia graduated from Hamden High School in 2000, and from that moment her journey took off. She moved to North Carolina to be close to family and never looked back.

Once Tia gave her life to Jesus, her ministry and walk with GOD was untouchable. She preached her initial sermon in 2008, and in 2011 was ordained as Elder under the leadership and guidance of Apostle James Spence. GOD was first and foremost in Tia’s life. Her words of encouragement, text messages of love and physical presence helped you press a little more in your season. As an Insurance Verification Specialist, employed with Holly Hill Hospital in Raleigh, NC, Tia’s zeal for life was felt on day one by the staff and co-workers.

As a Teacher of GOD’s Word, Tia had a unique way of making every scripture relatable. Making GOD’s truth attainable and making JESUS your friend. Her ministry was designed just for her. She was a leader in GOD’s Kingdom, a friend to many and a lover of His Truth.

She was predeceased by her brother, Aaron Hagans, and her maternal grandfather, Theodore Lucas, the one and only Poppy.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Cheryl Smith from Sanford; maternal grandmother, Mother Genevieve Lucas (Grammy) from Sanford; sister; Tamera Stewart(Lewis), Kingdom partner and best friend; brother, Jovar Hagans from Connecticut; sister, Joelle Hagans from Connecticut; uncle, Richard Lucas from Connecticut; special cousin, her ride or die, David Lucas from Connecticut; niece, Rayanna Walker; nephew, Tyler Walker; great-nephew, Jayden Walker (Wayda), who was very special to Tia. She called him her nephew-son because their love was that of a mother and her child.

She also leaves to cherish her memory, Victor Brown of Durham, who was there with her until the Lord came to take her home and Shonda Hurt who never left her side.

Tia is no longer here with us, but we thank GOD we will see her again. We love you Tia.

The family will receive visitors at 611 Harkey Road, Sanford, NC.
