Reverend Larry Lee Watson, age 80, of Sanford, NC entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his residence.
The Obituary
Reverend Larry Lee Watson (80), a beloved and respected gentleman wherever he went, sadly left our world March 6, 2025, after a life richly lived in service. A devoted minister of faith and a beloved servant of God. He was a “well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:23).
Reverend Larry Watson was a beacon of light in our community touching lives via person, radio, or telephone. He was a fisherman, casting his net out to those who were not devoted to the Lord. His vision was to bring people to faith and never gave up on someone because they were “too far gone.”
He loved nature and was truly a down to earth man. Making his organic fertilizer, gardening and teaching his sons to hunt (mostly teaching life lessons instead of hunting). Like his fertilizer, he was organic in telling the truth and what you saw is what you got.
Reverend Larry met Loscie Watson in 9th grade at W.B. Wicker School. She was his girl; hence, their favorite song was “My Girl.” They have been married for 56 years.
Reverend Larry was a member of St. Luke Holiness Church in Osgood, NC. He served in many capacities including the young men’s quartet in his youth to a minister later in life. He entered the ministry under the tutelage of Rev. James Bethea. He ministered at Macedonia AME Zion Church, First Baptist in Cameron, NC, and broadcasting monthly on WXKL Radio 1290. He received his ministerial license in the Southern District Convocation of the United Holy Church of America.
Reverend Larry’s generosity, kindness and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He believed in building relationships and memories that would stand the test of time. Family was of utmost importance to him; bonding and helping siblings, advising young and old in the family, and bringing up his children and grandchildren with reason and gentle discipline.
He was born to Madge and Bennie Watson on April 16, 1944, in Osgood, NC; both have preceded him in death. His siblings, Nannie Johnson and Jessie Watson have also preceded him in death.
His eldest son, Jeffrey Darrell, preceded him in death, but he is waiting with the Heavenly Father to greet him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Loscie Watson; his son, Derek, Sr. (Tiffany) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jordan, Derek Jr., Kaleb, and Darrell all of Greensboro. Tiffany was truly his daughter, RN, and an abiding angel that stood by him every step of the way. Also surviving are his siblings, Willie Watson (Doris), Theodore Watson (Betty) and Cathy Jones (William), James Johnson, Judy Watson and a host of family members.
He is forever in our hearts as a reminder of strength, perseverance, love and compassion. Though we will mourn his loss daily, we know we will be reunited in time. “I know I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I kept the faith". (2 Timothy 4:7.)
